Wedding day detail photos are an important part of capturing the special pieces that make up your big day. These photos showcase the personal touches that make your wedding unique and memorable. It’s likely that couples will spend several hours picking the perfect color scheme, flowers, invitations, outfit accessories, heirlooms, vow books, table decor, cocktails, and much more.
Typically, when I arrive on your wedding day I will photograph details first. I will ask my couples to collect items a week before the wedding, and have the bride bring them with her so that they are ready to go when I arrive.
To ensure that your photographer doesn’t miss any important details, here are 6 things to include in your wedding detail box.
1. Wedding attire. Your wedding attire, including the bride’s dress, the groom’s tuxedo or suit, and the bridesmaids’ dresses, are all important items to include in your detail photos. These items won’t physically fit in a box, but it’s helpful to have your dress, veil, shoes, gloves, cuff links, etc., all gathered in one safe spot. Your photographer will want to capture the intricate details of each piece of clothing, such as lace patterns, beading and any engraving.
2. Jewelry and perfume. The jewelry you wear on your wedding day is often meaningful and sentimental, so be sure to include your engagement ring, wedding band, earrings, necklace, and any other jewelry you may be wearing. If you have a specific perfume that you’ll be wearing, such as a Chanel No.5 bottle, that would be a lovely addition.
3. Bouquets and boutonnieres. These floral arrangements are often intricately designed and are an important part of the overall wedding aesthetic. Be sure to include flowers and any special details, such as ribbon or brooches.
4. Invitations. Your wedding invitations set the tone for your entire wedding, so be sure to include the invitation suite, as well as any special details, such as embellishments, calligraphy, or wax seals.
5. Decorations. Your wedding decorations, such as centerpieces, candle arrangements, and table settings, are also important items to include in your detail box. I’ve seen couples incorporate disco balls, playing cards, Polaroid cameras, special cocktail glasses and sunglasses.
6. Vow books. If you are writing your own vows, I always suggest including your vow books in that box as well. Vow books are some of the most sentimental pieces of the day so it’s important to incorporate them to help tell and remember your story.
Before wedding day…
A week before the wedding collect all wedding details and place them into one box so that everything is in one place and not forgotten. Be sure to bring that box with you wherever you are meeting your photographer on wedding day. They will take care of the rest!
Overall, capturing all the important details from your wedding day is essential to preserving your memories and creating a visual story of your special day. By including these six things in your wedding detail box, you’ll ensure that nothing is forgotten, and your photographer is able to capture all the important details of your wedding day.
